Our Story

Antioch Progressive Church PastorAntioch Progressive Baptist Church was born in 1985 when 55 believers, through prayer and fasting, sought a church that would be different—not bound by tradition, but firmly anchored in God’s Word. From our first worship service on December 4, 1985, Antioch has lived by the truth: “God is our Sponsor.”

In 1986, God called Dr. Curtis J. Mitchell as our founding pastor. For more than three decades, Pastor Mitchell faithfully shepherded Antioch, teaching us to discover our spiritual gifts, to build ministries not programs, and to trust that “the Will of God will not lead us where the Grace of God will not keep us.”

Under Pastor Mitchell’s leadership, Antioch grew into a church that not only worships together, but serves our community in practical ways. Among the nonprofits birthed out of this vision was the Nehemiah Corporation of America, which helped thousands of families become homeowners and made possible the financing of Antioch’s Family Life Center.

Today, Antioch is led by a committed team of pastors and leaders, continuing the legacy Pastor Mitchell began. Our Executive Pastor, Rev. Don F. Harris—who helped establish Nehemiah—now serves his home church in a pastoral role, guiding Antioch into its next season of ministry.

Though times have changed, Antioch’s mission has not: to make and grow healthy disciples while meeting the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of our community. We welcome all people so that together we may experience God in a new way.
